Call for Expressions of Interest in membership of the Waste Authority

The Minister for the Environment is seeking expressions of interest for membership of a new body, the Waste Authority, being established to address policy and best practices in relation to waste management and recycling in Western Australia.

The five-member authority is a statutory body established under Part 2 of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007. It will provide strategic advice to the Minister on policy and priorities for dealing with waste management and recycling, and will develop a State waste strategy and promote and coordinate its implementation.

The constitution and detailed functions of the authority are outlined in Schedules 1 and 2 of the Act. Eligibility for membership includes having the skill, experience and knowledge in matters relating to sustainability, waste services, or waste avoidance and resource recovery or having an interest relevant to the functions of the Waste Authority, and being able to make a contribution to the functions of the authority.

Expressions of interest should state whether they are in relation to the position of Authority Chairman, Deputy Chairman or member, or all positions.

Expressions of interest should be marked 'CONFIDENTIAL' and forwarded to:

Please note that a person appointed as a member of the Waste Authority cannot also be employed under part 3 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994.
