Committees
Household Hazardous Waste Committee
In December 2009 the Minister for Environment approved the establishment of a Waste Authority Household Hazardous Waste Committee jointly with Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA). The Committee comprises representatives from the Waste Authority, WALGA, Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and local government. The terms of reference for the Committee include:
- Review household hazardous waste collection processes in other States.
- Revise the household hazardous waste program contract to achieve certainty, agreed outcomes and a process for review.
- Recommend cost-sharing arrangements.
- Recommend other product stewardship arrangements for priority materials.
The Committee has met in 2010 to address the above issues and importantly prepare program details for 2011-2012 and beyond. View meeting minutes
The Jurisdictional Projects Group (Formerly the Jurisdictional Recycling Group)
The Western Australian Jurisdictional Projects Group is comprised of State and Local Government and industry stakeholder groups from signatories to the second term National Packaging Covenant (2005 to 2010). The group is responsible for developing project proposals consistent with priority funding areas for consideration by the National Projects Group (formerly the Kerbside Recycling Group).
The Local Government Data Working Group
The Local Government Data Working Group commenced on 13th December 2007 and is a group which discusses data issues or projects relating to data occurring in Western Australia. The group meets once a month with members made up from Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC), Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA), City of Mandurah, City of South Perth and Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC). The Waste Authorty receives feedback from the working group on all data aspects, such as the Zero Waste Plan Development Scheme figures, contents of the current Online Surveys, protocols for waste and recycling.
Please email for further details on the working group.

Young Waste Professionals
Endowed with a healthy degree of scepticism and a measure of irreverence, the WA Young Professionals provides a unique cross sector forum for those who are passionate about the waste industry. Our members come from a diverse range of areas including industry, manufacturing, landfills, recycling facilities, local government, state government, consultant, Catchment Councils and education. As the name suggests, the group primarily contains those who consider themselves young…with everyone’s definition varying a bit. In practical terms, most of the YPs are under 40, or just very immature. We recognise we are the decision makers of the future and as such need to be informed, educated and have strong networks throughout the industry. In the future, change will be achieved by breaking down traditional barriers and working together. Visit Website
