Ms Jan Grimoldby, Acting Chair |

Jan Grimoldby has worked at a senior level in Local government for over 20 years, including eleven years as CEO in three different councils, two of which were specialist regional waste management councils in metropolitan Perth. She retired from full time employment in October 2007. During this time, she has accrued substantial experience in matters relating to waste minimisation and resource recovery. Ms Grimoldby is familiar with modern waste minimisation and resource recovery technologies and techniques and is aware of the importance of education and public opinion and attitudes in matters associated with environmental protection from a waste management perspective. Ms Grimoldby was Commissioner City of Geraldton-Greenough during May – October 2007, the inaugural CEO of the South East Metropolitan Regional Council (SEMRC) from 2002 – 2007, CEO of the Town of Cottesloe between 1993 – 1998 and inaugural CEO of the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council from 1991 – 93. She has extensive experience with developing regional cooperative mechanisms in a local government environment, policy development, strategic planning and practical leadership. During the past nine years, Jan has also worked as an independent consultant, undertaking a range of studies and projects for both local government and the non-government sector. Jan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Literature) and a Post Graduate Diploma of Education from Curtin University and an Advanced Diploma of Fine Art from the West Australian School of Art & Design. |
Ms Carolyn Jakobsen, Member |

Carolyn Jakobsen is a Postgraduate Researcher at Murdoch University. Ms Jakobsen is Chair of the Women’s Health Services Association, Chair of the Woodman Point Waste Water Treatment Plant Community Reference Group, and a Member of the Swan River Trust. Ms Jakobsen was also a member of the former WA Waste Management Board. During 1984–1993, Ms Jakobsen was the Federal MP for Cowan (including Chair of the Federal Parliamentary Labor Caucus from 1990 – 1993; Leader, Parliamentary Delegation to New Zealand in 1988, Leader, Parliamentary Delegation to Scandinavia 1990). She is currently the Secretary of the Women’s Health Services Association (having been the Chair for the previous three years), and is a member for the Burswood Park Board committee. |
Mr Marcus Geisler, Member |

Marcus Geisler has 24 years experience in the waste, resource recovery and recycling industry, 11 years of which were in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Scandinavia and Italy at both an operational and management level and 3 years in the Melbourne Corporate Office of a waste management multinational developing national and state strategies. Mr Geisler has direct experience in waste resource processing, recovery and subsequent marketing of secondary materials ranging from construction and demolition waste to kerbside recyclables, composting of organic waste and MSW alternative waste treatment processes. Mr Geisler's previous roles in WA include WA General Manager of waste management company SITA and PWM, Managing Director of West Australian Landfill Services (SITA and Hanson JV) and Business Manager of BioWise Composting (SITA and Water Corporation partnership). From 2004 till 2009 Marcus established the Western Region for Thiess Services as their General Manager. Thiess Services is Australia’s largest and most diversified services company also involved in collection, processing, land filling and recovery of waste and land remediation. Recently Marcus joined Coates Hire as the Executive General Manager West. During 2003 – 2008, Mr Geisler was the elected President of the Waste Management Association WA and a Director and Board member of the WMAA. From 2002 to 2006 Mr Geisler was a member of the Core Consultative Committee on waste (3C), a government advisory committee on the siting of hazardous waste precincts. Mr Geisler holds various diplomas in Economics, Management and Trade and is a Fellow and Alumni of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. |
Professor Paul Hardisty Member |

Professor Hardisty is Executive Director, Sustainability and EcoNomicsTM for Worley Parsons. Prof Hardisty has over 20 years experience in the environmental field, focusing on environmental strategy and decision making, and the financial and economic aspects of sustainability, waste management and climate change. He is a Visiting Professor in Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia, School of Business. Paul is also a Director of Green Cross Australia, a leading environmental NGO. Paul has published widely and is the author of a forthcoming book, “Environmental and Economic Sustainability”, to be published by CRC Press. Prof Hardisty is also a recognised expert in the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites and groundwater, and the behaviour of organic chemical wastes in the natural environment. He lives in Perth with his wife and two sons, and for fun competes in Ironman Triathlon. |
