Federal Government:
The Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC)
The Council has a range of environmental responsibilities, including the minimisation and management of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, including product stewardship.
Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA)
The DEWHA develops and coordinates a range of programs to reduce waste, either by encouraging material efficiency, reducing the generation of waste, or enabling the recovery and reuse of discarded material.

Local Government:
Local government has the primary role in providing information about waste management and recycling directly to households and ratepayers.
Individual councils provide the infrastructure to deal with municipal waste, however the way in which waste and recyclables are collected differs from one council to the next.

The Waste Authority:
On 2 January 2002, the Western Australian Government announced the establishment of an eight member Waste Management Board to develop a sustainable framework for dealing with waste in Western Australia. This has now been superseded by a Waste Authority, appointed under Part 2 of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007. The five authority members were appointed on 6 May 2008, and the Authority commence operation in full on 1 July 2008. Read More:

The Jurisdictional Projects Group (Formerly the Jurisdictional Recycling Group)
The group is responsible for developing project proposals consistent with priority funding areas for consideration by the National Projects Group (formerly the Kerbside Recycling Group).
