The Strategic Waste Initiatives Scheme (SWIS) is a broad support scheme, where funding is only one element of the potential support and assistance that can be provided.

Business and industry, local government, community groups and individuals are encouraged to apply for support available through the SWIS. Support will be provided for initiatives which are consistent with the former Waste Management Board's Statement of Strategic Direction for Waste Management in Western Australia (available below).

  • Greenwaste
  • Construction & Demolition (C & D)
  • Plastics
  • Used Tyres
  • Hazardous Waste from Households

How to Submit an Application

Out of Session Grant applications will not be accepted.

Applicants must read the ‘Guidelines for Applicants’ document and speak to a Waste Management Branch Project Coordinator about their project before they submit their application on the prescribed form. Should you wish to make contact with a Project Coordinator, please contact Paul Ward on 6467 5320, or email.

An electronic copy of the application form will be provided to applicants once contact has been established

Statement of Strategic Direction for Waste Management in Western Australia 2004/2005 Priorities
Highlights priority waste products for the 2004/05 year, which are considered generally still relevant. These focus areas are where there are waste products accumulating, which are not being prevented, which have few options for recovery, which are potentially harmful to the environment on disposal and therefore require action.
