International Composting Awareness Week (ICAW) 2008:
Sunday 4th May - Saturday 10th May 2008.
DEC was a Diamond sponsor of ICAW 2008. The theme for ICAW 2008 is ‘The story of compost’ - how it is made and where it goes, with the tag-line ‘Keep it green, Keep it clean’ as to encourage clean and thorough source-separation.

To officially open International Composting Awareness Week 2008 in Western Australia, Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) held an official launch at Forrest Place, Perth on 5 May 2008. A VIP breakfast for Invited guests from industry and government was held (8.30 – 9.30) with The Minister for Environment; Climate Change, David Templeman officially opening ICAW followed by a presentation by Josh Byrne. Following the VIP breakfast, an on-site expo promoting the story of compost and its associated benefits with giveaways of compost and tickets to the 2008 Gardening Australia Expo will be open to the public from 9.30am – 2pm.
An online calendar of events to promote and celebrate International Composting Awareness Week in Western Australia, was promoted on the Towards Zero Waste Website, as well as the International Composting Awareness Week (ICAW) website Events and activities listed in the calendar included:
- ICAW Public Launch
- Ron Alexander Tour: Marketing & Specifying Application-Specific Compost Products
- Landline TV Program - compost segment
- Carmel Community Agricultural Open Day
