Hot Topic Archives: Successful grant recipients announced: Round 1, 2008
The State Government has awarded $619,224 to local governments, industry and community groups.
Seven businesses and organisations from around the State will receive grants totalling $555,520 under the latest round of funding through the Strategic Waste Initiatives Scheme (SWIS) for projects aimed at reducing waste and promoting recycling.
Projects include: a collaborative project between metropolitan Regional Councils to develop a pilot program for collecting and recycling e-waste; a hospitality industry waste audit to develop waste prevention and recovery systems; research to increase building waste recycling in Mandurah; an investigation into the potential use of recycled products in local government construction and maintenance; and the use of recycled paint for ground marking in the mining industry.
In addition to the SWIS grants, four community groups have been awarded a total of $63,704 as part of the Community Grants Scheme for local small-scale waste minimisation and recycling projects.
These include a grant awarded to the WA Symphony Orchestra to improve waste management and recycling practices at the annual Symphony in the City in December.
The funding is part of the Government's commitment to move the State closer to the vision of ‘Toward Zero Waste’ by supporting waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
