Hot Topic Archives: Landfill levy charges to come into effect January 1, 2010
Environment Minister Donna Faragher and Treasurer Troy Buswell said to ensure certainty for local governments the State Government would introduce the 300 per cent increase in landfill levy charges, as announced in the 2009-10 State Budget, from January 1, 2010.
Having received legal advice, the Government decided it was appropriate that, prior to the proposed 300 per cent increase in levies taking effect, the passage of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Amendment Bill 2009 should occur first.
The Government is confident that the legislation was valid and will provide for waste levy moneys to be used for both waste-related purposes and for the Department of Environment and Conservation to utilise the funds for broader environmental and conservation purposes.

Category 63 (Class I) $3.00 per cubic metre
Category 64 and 65 (Class II, III, IV) $8.00 per tonne
