Gazettal and commencement of the Waste Avoidance and Recource Recovery (WARR) Regulations 2008, and the WARR Levy Regulations

On 20 June 2008, the following matters were published in the Western Australian Government Gazette:

  • the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery (“WARR”) Regulations (Gazette No. 96);
  • the WARR Levy Regulations (Gazette No. 97);
  • proclamation of the WARR Act 2007 (Gazette No. 98); and
  • proclamation of the WARR Levy Act (also in Gazette No. 98).

The two Acts and two sets of Regulations all come into operation on 1 July 2008.

Part 6 of the WARR Act allows for waste services to be provided by local governments, and supercedes the waste services provisions formerly in the Health Act 1911.

The WARR Levy Regulations set the levy for waste received at category 63 landfill premises at the existing level of three dollars ($3) per cubic metre.

The levy rate for waste received at category 64 and 65 landfill premises is $7 per tonne from 1 July 2008.

See the attached letter, and the below link, for further details.
