Public Release of Draft II Waste Strategy for Western Australia

Have Your Say on the Draft Waste Strategy

On the 16th September 2009, the Waste Authority released its draft Waste Strategy for Western Australia, for public comment. The Waste Strategy aims to create an environment which encourages waste avoidance, resource recovery and responsible disposal of that portion of the waste stream for which it is currently unsustainable to achieve effective recovery. It will be an important document for the future management of waste and the environment in Western Australia.

The public release was accompanied by a 12 week submission period, which closed on 10 December 2009, during which 13 workshops were held in Perth and around the State. We received 1,440 comments, including feedback from the workshops, which has been analysed and forms the recommendations for the revision of the draft waste strategy.

The Submissions Report and Draft II of the Waste Strategy for Western Australia can be viewed here >>

The review period for Draft II is open for 28 days from Friday 19 March to Monday 19 April 2010.
