Household Hazardous Waste Committee Established
The Minister for Environment recently gave approval to the establishment of a Waste Authority, Household Hazardous Waste Committee under the provisions of section 18 of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007.
The Authority’s aim in establishing the committee was to determine a continuing, effective and efficient partnership program for Household Hazardous Waste with local government and other key stakeholders. In addition, the need to continue past funding commitments, refinement and enhancement of the current household hazardous waste programs and to ultimately look to product stewardship approach for household hazardous wastes was also identified.

The following matters were raised and discussed during the first meeting held on the 10th February 2010:

- Metropolitan Collections
- Promotion
- Product Stewardship & Sponsorship
